Panchayat members and Gaon buras are the torch bearers of the society

Awareness creation is the need of the hour. When awareness is created, then true development can be achieved. This was stated by Smt. Yater Nasi, Chairperson, Zilla Parishad, Upper Subansiri District in the public information campaign organized by Press Information Bureau, Government of India at Dumporijo today.

Addressing the meeting as the Chief Guest, Smt. Yater Nasi said that Panchayat leaders and Gaon Buras are the torchbearers of the society. They have a great role in building the society. For this reason, they should come forward to improve the economic condition of the common people. The Central Government has launched several schemes such as NRHM, NREGA, SSA, RTI Act etc. for the benefit of the people. She appealed village elders to make common people aware of various schemes of the Government, which are meant for them.

Addressing the meeting, Shri Kego Essi, Extra Assistant Commissioner Dumporijo in his speech wished all success of the publicity campaign. He also appealed people to take advantage of the programme.

Addressing the meeting as resource person on NRHM, Dr. S. Muri, Medical Officer, Dumporijo said that the main objective of NRHM is to provide medical facilities to the rural people. Accordingly, they should take the advantage of the scheme. He said that under NRHM, there is provision of a health worker called ASHA. Dr. Muri requested all the villagers to avail the services of ASHA. Talking about the advantages of small family norm, he said that small family brings happiness to every family. For this reason, they should maintain small family norm. He requested all the villagers to bring pregnant mothers to hospital for safe delivery. This will reduce infant mortality.

Addressing as resource person on NREGA, Shri Nabu Chokar, Assistant Project Officer, DRDA said that Upper Subansiri District has been declared as one of the 200 NREGA districts in the country. Accordingly, NREGA scheme has been started in the district. Job cards have been issued and card holders are now entitled for 100 days employment in a year. He requested panchayat leaders to help the Government in asset creation under the scheme.

Speaking as resource person on SSA, Shri B. Sorum, Coordinator, SSA, Daporijo said that the objective of SSA to educate children of 6 to 14 years. Accordingly Village Education Committees have been formed in the district to look after the welfare of education of the children. There is a provision for residential school under SSA. Shri Sorum said that altogether 122 teachers have been provided for primary school has been provided under SSA in Upper Subansiri district. He appealed parents to send their children to school for their better future.

Speaking as resource person on ICDS Scheme, Smt. Yari Bagra, CDPO, Dumporijo said that ICDS scheme was started at Dumporijo in 1997-98. She said that there are 1532 children of 0 to 6 years group at Dumporijo. With limitation, ICDS, Dumporijo is rendering services to the children.

Speaking as resource person on RTI Act, Shri A J. Ligu, LEO said about RTI Act and requested the people to use of Act for the greater interest of the society. He appealed the people to build Developed India to fulfill the dream of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, President of India.

Shri Tajum Riba, Head Gaon Bura of Riba village and Shri Pije Uli, Secertary, Bazar Committee, Dumporijo also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier Shri Khoda Pusang, Joint Director, DFP, Itanagar welcomed the participants. Vote of thanks was offered by Shri D. Chakraborty, FPO, Daporijo.

The programme was followed by theme based cultural programme presented by Song and Drama Division.
